PTSD Treatment in Pleasant Grove, Utah
Trauma-focused therapy to help your nervous system stand down, reduce flashbacks and hypervigilance, and rebuild a sense of safety. Available in-person and via telehealth.
What Is PTSD?
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a frightening or life threatening event. The nervous system stays on alert long after the danger has passed, leading to flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance and feeling constantly on edge.
Types of PTSD
- Acute Stress Disorder: Trauma symptoms in the first month after an event.
- PTSD: Symptoms lasting longer than a month that interfere with daily life.
- Complex PTSD: Effects of repeated or long term trauma, often in childhood or relationships, including difficulty with emotions and self worth.
- Delayed Onset PTSD: Symptoms that appear months or years after the event.
PTSD Is a Nervous System Injury, Not a Weakness
Post-traumatic stress disorder develops when the brain and body cannot fully process an overwhelming event. The threat response stays active long after the danger has passed, and everyday reminders can trigger the same survival reaction as the original event.

Diagnosing PTSD
Reading about symptoms can help you put words to what you are experiencing, but only a trained mental health professional can diagnose ptsd. At Atium Health, your first appointment includes a thorough assessment of your history, symptoms and goals, often supported by validated questionnaires. We repeat those measures over time so you and your clinician can see real progress.
Your provider will also look for anything that may be contributing, such as sleep, medical conditions, medications, substance use or other mental health concerns, so your plan fits the whole picture.
What Causes PTSD?
There is rarely a single cause. Most often ptsd develops from a mix of life experiences and biology.
Lifestyle and Environmental Factors
- Combat, assault, abuse or serious accidents
- Ongoing exposure to trauma through work, such as first responders
- Lack of support after the event
- Additional stress or loss afterward
- Substance use
Someone may have several or none of these factors and still be affected.
Biological Factors
Genetics, prior trauma and how strongly the body's stress system reacts all influence who develops PTSD. Brain areas that process fear and memory can stay overactive after trauma.
Telehealth Treatment for PTSD
Many people can be assessed and treated for ptsd through secure video sessions. Research shows telehealth therapy and medication management can be as effective as in person care for many conditions, and it makes it easier to fit treatment into a busy schedule. Atium Health offers telehealth throughout Utah, Arizona, Idaho and Florida.
