Trauma Therapy in Pleasant Grove, Utah
Specialized care for the lasting effects of trauma, including childhood wounds, relational trauma, and overwhelming life events. Available in-person and via telehealth.
What Is Trauma?
Trauma is the lasting emotional and physical response to events that overwhelmed your ability to cope. It can come from a single event or from repeated experiences over time, and it can affect mood, relationships, sleep and health long after the event.
Types of Trauma
- Acute Trauma: A single overwhelming event, such as an accident or assault.
- Chronic Trauma: Repeated or ongoing harm, such as abuse or domestic violence.
- Complex and Developmental Trauma: Harm or neglect during childhood within important relationships.
- Relational and Betrayal Trauma: Deep breaches of trust by a partner or caregiver.
- Religious Trauma: Harm connected to faith communities or spiritual experiences.
Trauma Leaves a Mark on the Whole Person
Trauma is not defined by the event itself but by how your nervous system was left holding it. Whether the wound came from a single overwhelming event or years of chronic stress, neglect, or relational harm, its effects show up in the body, the mind, and relationships.

Medication Management Collaboration
Coordination with our psychiatric team when medication can support sleep, mood, or anxiety during trauma work.
Diagnosing Trauma
Reading about symptoms can help you put words to what you are experiencing, but only a trained mental health professional can diagnose trauma. At Atium Health, your first appointment includes a thorough assessment of your history, symptoms and goals, often supported by validated questionnaires. We repeat those measures over time so you and your clinician can see real progress.
Your provider will also look for anything that may be contributing, such as sleep, medical conditions, medications, substance use or other mental health concerns, so your plan fits the whole picture.
What Causes Trauma?
There is rarely a single cause. Most often trauma develops from a mix of life experiences and biology.
Lifestyle and Environmental Factors
- Abuse, neglect or violence
- Serious accidents or medical events
- Loss of a loved one
- Unsafe home or relationships
- Lack of support after the event
Someone may have several or none of these factors and still be affected.
Biological Factors
Trauma shapes the nervous system. The body's stress response can stay switched on, and genetics, earlier trauma and overall health influence how strongly someone is affected.
Telehealth Treatment for Trauma
Many people can be assessed and treated for trauma through secure video sessions. Research shows telehealth therapy and medication management can be as effective as in person care for many conditions, and it makes it easier to fit treatment into a busy schedule. Atium Health offers telehealth throughout Utah, Arizona, Idaho and Florida.
